Leo Mars Opposes Aquarius Saturn this Cancer Solar Season: Beware Nostalgia Storms and Ego Fires.

We take on the next major aspect of the season tonight at about 8pm eastern, the long anticipated Mars opposition to Saturn which most modern astrologers are shittng their pants over 🍑💥😂.  Not to say this isn’t a major transit with heavy implications, but you have been learning to surf these astrological waves and doing the important prep work to handle the intensity of this planetary standoff.
Mars, always looking for a fight it seems, turns to face the Patriarch today,  I’m seeing the young upstart challenging the Sheriff to a duel, old Western style, guns ablazin’. Who knows which way this intriguing drama will play out, but we can probably count on at least a minimum level of fallout in the collective in the next few days. Politics will be polarized. Fire fighting may be a theme. Please safeguard your home and land, and double check open flames, do not leave them unattended, and keep water standing by your fireworks festivities.

The gravitas of Saturn in retrograde brings to mind all measures of time. While the planet is not technically moving backwards, the perspective is retrospective. With this Cancer Sun we can count on the flavor of nostalgia being strong on our lips, a mixture of barrel aged whiskey and tears for bygone eras. Mars in Leo is described by the Sabian symbol as “An Old Sea Captain Rocking on the Porch of his Cottage”. He’s sitting with the 12° retro Saturn in Aquarius, “A Barometer”.  I imagine this salty old dog, basking in the humidity of the coastal summer, feels a storm rolling in, and reminisces over his intense adventures on the high seas. He’s feeling every ounce of the poignant longing to be courageously riding those stormy waves once again.
Mars opposing Saturn is indeed the ego facing up to facts of time and aging, recognizing the body has its limitations in form and function, that decay and rot can set in long before death if the health and vitality are diminished. We can come face to face today, and this week, with mortality and loss. It’s a very important time to honestly address your physical health and self care routines to stay ahead of damage control!  This energy could also manifest inwardly as coming to terms with your own age and station, picking up the mantle of responsibility and coming into emotional acceptance of your new role in life, perhaps as mentor, manager or becoming a grandparent.

Marrying these energies alchemically requires that we own our role, wherever we are the authority, with maturity and recognition of karmic consequence, being mindful of moving forward without creating more suffering.  The Martian impulse is to backlash, as the ego will perform its final death throes, creating chaos in the wake of self sabotage, afraid to take on responsibility for fear of failure or ridicule, and letting opportunities for true growth and learning pass by. (Don’t worry if you blow it, there’s always another opportunity from the cosmos to level up, just around the corner with the next transit!)  The real danger here is limiting future growth and expansion for yourself which comes from healthy roots, which allow the flower to bloom another season. Mars in Saturn can hastily uproot the seedling before it’s sprouts can even reveal what fruit the bud will yield, mistaking it for a weed. Now is the time to cultivate an attitude of waiting with gratitude. Patience, with self and others, is the key virtue to employ with this transit. Observing the necessary lessons and mindfully planning the next positive steps towards growth is the practice.

Happy sailing, ye merry band of pirates!
